Gmail Blog と Google Drive Blog の方にも掲載されていましたが、Gmail と Google Docs において、手書き入力がサポートされたそうです。
キーボードからでは入力が難しい場合でも、（マウスやトラックパッドによる） 手書きで直接文字を入力することが可能になりました。先ほど試してみたところ、すでに利用可能になっているようです。

Whether you're a student trying to include a foreign phrase in your paper or an international consultant hoping to begin your message with a friendly local greeting, now you'll be able to use your own handwriting to input words directly into Gmail and Google Docs with your mouse or trackpad.
To try it out, enable input tools in Gmail or Docs and select the handwriting input (represented by a pencil icon) of the language you want to use.

手書きで入力すると、文字が認識されていき、確定すればそれが文書に反映されます。
Google はモバイル検索や、翻訳サービス （Android、iOS アプリ含む）ですでに手書き入力に対応していますが、これでメールや文書作成でも使えるようになりました。
