Google の地図検索サービスとして公開された 「Google Maps」 は、昨年 10月、ローカル検索機能と統合された際にその名称を 「Google Local」 に改められたことで、事実上 「Google Maps」 の名称は消滅したわけですが、やっぱり Google Maps の方がユーザーのなじみが深かったようで、このたび 「Google Local」 から 「Google Maps」 への名称変更を発表しました。すでに日本語版でも 「Google マップ」 に名前が変更されています。

But we underestimated how much people loved Google Maps. Many have continued to refer to the site by the previous name, and many have explicitly asked us to "bring back Google Maps."Since it's most important to us to give our users what they want, we've decided to change the name officially to Google Maps.

たしかに、私も、普通に 「Google Maps」 って呼んでました、、みんな同じだったんですね。
